What Equipment Makes Up A Thermoplastic Production Line?

2026-08-27

A thermoplastic production line generally includes raw-material storage and feeding equipment, weighing or dosing units, a mixing system, dust collection, conveying equipment, cooling, screening, packaging, and electrical controls. The exact equipment configuration depends on formula type, production capacity, automation level, packaging format, plant layout, and locally available raw materials.

A complete thermoplastic road marking material production line should deliver consistent dosing, uniform mixing, controlled dust, efficient transfer, and traceable packaging.

Raw-Material Storage

Thermoplastic formulations may use binder resin, pigment, mineral fillers, glass beads, and performance additives. Each material requires suitable storage to prevent moisture absorption, contamination, or accidental mixing.

Large-volume ingredients may use silos or bulk bags, while pigments and additives may be stored in smaller sealed containers.

Feeding and Dosing

Accurate formulation begins with controlled weighing. Depending on plant scale, dosing may be manual, semi-automatic, or fully automatic.

The system should address:

  • Ingredient accuracy

  • Feeding speed

  • Material flow

  • Dust containment

  • Batch traceability

  • Prevention of cross-contamination

Small additives require particular attention because a limited weighing error can significantly change a batch.

Mixing Equipment

The mixer must distribute resin, pigment, filler, beads, and additives uniformly without excessive segregation or material damage.

Mixer size should match the target batch and downstream packaging rate. A larger mixer does not improve production if feeding, cooling, or packing cannot keep pace.

Conveying System

Screw conveyors, elevators, pneumatic transfer, or other systems move materials between production stages. Selection depends on particle characteristics, distance, elevation, dust control, and plant arrangement.

Conveying should avoid excessive separation between light and heavy ingredients.

Dust Collection

Powder handling creates airborne dust that can affect worker conditions, equipment cleanliness, and product consistency. Local extraction and enclosed transfer points help manage emissions.

Dust-control design must follow applicable workplace and environmental requirements.

Cooling and Screening

After mixing, the material may need controlled cooling before packaging. Screening removes oversized particles and helps produce a more consistent finished product.

Cooling capacity should be matched to climate and line output. Packaging hot material can affect bags, storage stability, and caking.

Packaging Equipment

Finished thermoplastic material is commonly weighed and packed into moisture-resistant bags. A packaging section may include automatic weighing, bag filling, sealing, coding, metal detection where specified, and palletizing.

The package must protect the formulation during storage and export transport.

Control and Quality Systems

An electrical control system coordinates feeding, weighing, mixing, transfer, and packing. Batch records improve traceability and troubleshooting.

Quality-control equipment may test raw materials and finished products for particle distribution, color, density, softening behavior, flow, drying characteristics, and other required properties.

Turnkey Production Support

As an industrial equipment supplier for thermoplastic production lines, we provide plant planning, equipment sourcing, production formulas, installation, commissioning, technical training, and continuous manufacturing support.

Our parent manufacturing operation was established in 1995, giving our technical team extensive practical experience in road-marking coating production. We can develop line configurations around factory space, available utilities, desired automation, local resources, and target output.

Planning the Right Line

A reliable thermoplastic production line is not a collection of oversized machines. Every section must be balanced around the required throughput and formula.

Provide the intended capacity, packaging, raw-material sources, labor availability, factory dimensions, utilities, and local compliance requirements before equipment selection begins.
